Lake District - Ullswater Valley. Patterdale Dog Day. A Farming Community Event
SATURDAY 25th AUGUST 2012

Sheepdog

LATEST NEWS:

Well we got the dry weather we had hoped for - the day was warm and dry and we had a lot of visitors, and we hope you all enjoyed your day?

We had a good number of competitors in all events and the new "Men only" cooking competition attracted a good many entries and interest when it came to the judging!

Our new fund raising initiative of "Friends of Patterdale Dog Day" was a huge success with many people becoming "Friends". The cost of becoming a "Friend" is £25 per annum and in return you receive 2 free entrance tickets and an acknowledgement of your support in the program. If anyone is interested in becoming a "Friend" for future then please do get in touch with the secretary and she will send a membership form to you.

With the ever increasing costs of staging such an event as Patterdale Dog Day we are indebted as usual to our ever generous sponsors and also our "Friends" for their financial support, without this support the event could not happen.

Finally all that is left for us to do is thank everyone who helped us to stage this year's event, again without all the help which we receive the event would not happen, and to also thank everyone who attended, without you there would be no point in holding the show!

The 2011 show will be held on Saturday 27th August 2011

The preparations for 2011 are well under way, all the facilities are booked, the
judges are organised and the sheep dog trial entries are flooding in, so all we need
now is a nice, warm, sunny day and plenty of you to turn up, enter some of the
competitions with dogs, sticks or just yourselves (by running in the fell race) and
to enjoy yourselves to help us make it a successful day.

Some small changes for 2011 have been made. We are splitting the gun dog class - we
will now hold a spaniel class and a Labrador / retriever type class. The stick
judging is being brought forward to 1pm and finally we are now "officially" holding
a "Men Only" cookery competition. For the last couple of years some of the men in
the dale have had a fun cookery competition, this year it is becoming official!

This year's competition entails baking and presenting on a plate 2 Cornish pasties
and the judging to see whose is the best will be held at approximately 4pm. The only
rules are that the entrants must be male and they must have made and baked the
pasties themselves - with NO help!

All that is left is to ask you to keep your fingers crossed for a dry day and for us
to look forward to seeing you on the day.

Patterdale Dog Day

Welcome to Patterdale Dog Day, our small show runs on the Saturday of the August Bank Holiday weekend and is centred around an open sheep dog trials competition. As well as the dog trial there are many other attractions and shows to keep you entertained throughout the day.

Our traditional country show is situated in one of the most beautiful locations in England.
The show field experiences the spectacular back drop of some of the most beautiful lakeland fells including part of the Helvellyn massif.

Patterdale Dog Day is one of the few remaining genuinely traditional shows. 2011's show is the 108th show to be held at Patterdale and we hope you will join us to enjoy the day.

Come to our day, stay a while amid the beauty of this lovely Lakeland dale and mingle with hill farmers, their families, local residents and visitors from around the world. Take a while to listen to the ancient Cumbrian dialect whilst enjoying the attractions for a leisurely few hours.

Among the attractions on the day include:

Open Sheep Dog Trails All Day
Terrier Show (open )
Open Gundog Show
Children's Pets Class
Show of traditional Sticks and Crooks
Ullswater Foxhound Show
